Energy Transition and Environmental Sustainability seminar

NILAI: Manipal International University (MIU) has been chosen as the official venue for Negri Sembilan’s state-level launch of Energy Transition and Environmental Sustainability seminar, organised by the Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB).

Education and awareness play a vital role in driving energy saving and sustainable change. By educating one-self and the communities about the importance of sustainability to the environment, it can inspire others to take the same action. Small changes in daily lives – such as reducing single-use plastics, conserving water and electricity, and adopting eco-friendly transportation options – can collectively make a significant difference.

This initiative aims to create a culture of saving among educators and parents by effectively supporting and strengthening energy saving policies as well as other environmentaln conservation.

Besides that, it also aims to educate organisations to practise a sustainable energy management system with the implementation of measures to reduce energy consumption through an efficient way of prudence, maintenance and the use of energy-efficient equipment at our campus.

Negri Sembilan Education Department director Dr Roslan Hussin said that, “Environmental issues are quite worrying. Therefore, it is our responsibility and effort to think of the best way to process energy into renewable energy.

“The parties present at the launch are collaborating to bring more awareness to the community.”

He added, “It is hoped that a programme like this will get the necessary support, and we are also grateful to TNB for taking note on this environmental issue that should be addressed from the beginning, for a prosperous future.”

Meanwhile, MIU vice chancellor Prof Dr Jason Fitzsimmons saw this as an opportunity to educate and involve staff and students of MIU to join together on this effort by practising all the necessary steps at their own campus.

“Small changes in our daily lives – such as reducing single-use plastics, conserving water and electricity, and adopting eco-friendly transportation options – can collectively make a significant difference.

“MIU aims to become an organisation that practises good saving of the energy and efficiently,“ added Prof Fitzsimmons.

The event today was attended by almost 250 students from schools around Negri Sembilan. It was officiated by Roslan, accompanied by TNB Negri Sembilan state retail head Abdul Manan Abdul Rahman, PIBKS Negeri Sembilan chairman Mohd Kameel Abdul Karim and Prof Fitzsimmons.

After the seminar, there were some exhibitions conducted by the students showcasing their STEM. project. Through the joint venture of the PIBKS STEM innovation laboratory with MIU and Everbest Media, it is hoped that this will encourage practice that will reduce the problems related to energy transition and environmental sustainability.
