Two deals signed to help SMEs acquire latest technology

IN an effort to encourage small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Penang adopt digitalisation, deals were inked by Digital Penang, YGL Convergence Bhd and Exabytes Network Sdn Bhd.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow witnessed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing for the two deals at Komtar, George Town.

Digital Penang was represented by its SME and community development director Khooi Chu Boon while YGL Convergence was represented by its chief executive officer Yeap Kong Chean.

The agreement between Digital Penang and YGL sets the stage for collaborative events which will enable SMEs to acquire the latest knowledge so they can become more competitive.

Khooi said that in the long run, the MoU would help SMEs contribute more to build a robust economy.

“It will be very good if SMEs can work with the state government and Digital Penang in adopting the latest technology.

“We understand SMEs may operate with lean resources and time.

“However, acquiring updated skills will definitely enable them to perform better,” said Khooi.

The other deal that was signed was between Exabytes and YGL for digital transformation of enterprise and cloud computing.

This will bring YGL’s cloud-based enterprise resource planning solution to manufacturing firms in the state.

This solution comprises 12 modules, with the manufacturing module a new feature that focuses on streamlining production planning.

The agreement was signed between Yeap and Exabytes executive vice-president and head of enterprise business Eric Foo.

Yeap said the collaboration between YGL and Exabytes aimed to make digitalisation more affordable and accessible for SMEs.

Meanwhile, Chow, in congratulating Digital Penang, YGL and Exabytes, said the event was another milestones in the trajectory of Penang’s progress, reinforcing the state government’s dedication to innovation and knowledge exchange.

“The two partnerships will facilitate a platform for micro and small enterprises within the manufacturing sector to immerse themselves in the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” he said.

“This is a concept poised to revolutionise business operations,” he added.
