Don’t delay govt projects approved under KLSP 2040, says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: There should be no delays involving government projects especially in the year end period that had been approved under the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2040 (KLSP 2040), says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pic).

The Prime Minister said he has given the Kuala Lumpur Mayor two weeks to prepare the necessary periodic report on the implementation of the projects under the KLSP 2040.

“If not, it will be delayed until next year. This is because some people said that half of Dec, people will go on leave. If you want to go on leave, it is fine. But at the same time in December there must be a periodic report,” said Anwar.

He said this in his address at the launch of the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2040 (PSKL 2040) on Thursday (Nov 9).

PSKL2040 is a comprehensive framework that considers the current situation and future plans including climate change, economic development, demography, lifestyle and infrastructure.

The event was attended by the Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, Anwar’s wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also the Bandar Tun Razak MP and other Federal Territories MPs.

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said that there should be efficiency in the implementation of government projects, not just for KLSP 2040 but nationwide.

“We want a fast decision making process, not just in Kuala Lumpur but across the country. Even though the speed of approval is fast, we are losing to some neighbouring countries such as Vietnam,” he added.

He said that the KLSP2040 must also consider the latest developments such as the importance of energy transition, green sustainability and issues pertaining to Electric Vehicles (EV), among others.

“And this plan that has just been launched, it is not carved in stone, There is still room for criticism and we will make suitable adjustments based on current needs,” said Anwar.
