Drug ring busted, 10 nabbed in joint ops

SHAH ALAM: Despite using a farm as a front with the suspects burying their illicit wares to avoid detection, it all came to nothing after the police smashed their drug distribution ring.

The two-day joint operation between Bukit Aman and the Selangor police contingent saw the arrest of 10 suspects during the raids on Nov 2 and 3.

In total, the police seized around RM10.39mil worth of drugs and drug base, Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said.

He said that day one of the operations led to the arrest of four syndicate members aged between 34 and 39.

“On Nov 2, about 11.25am, a police team from the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) detained a man who was driving a Ford Ranger on the side of the road in a residential area in Puncak Alam.

“Upon searching the vehicle, the police confiscated 241 yellow plastic bags labelled ‘Daguanyin Refined Chinese Tea’ containing methamphetamine, weighing 250.8kg.

“Following the arrest, around noon, the police detained three more men at a restaurant in Puncak Alam Jaya.

“Upon searching their vehicle, the police found a sack containing nine green plastic bags that contained 9.37kg of suspected methamphetamine,” he said at a press conference at the contingent headquarters here yesterday.

Day two of the operation saw the arrest of six more suspects, aged between 18 and 44, at a rest area next to a goat farm in Kapar.

“Following their arrest, the suspects led the police to an area near the farm where 109 packets of heroin, weighing 49.5kg, eight packets of methamphetamine (1.6kg) and 41 compressed packets of heroin base (15.5kg) were found buried,” Comm Hussein said.

Four of the suspects caught were workers of the farm. Five suspects had criminal and drug related records.

“They also tested positive for opioids,” he said.

It is believed that the group was responsible for transporting the drugs.

“We believe that the group had also been processing the drug base there. We also believe that this is a new modus operandi being used to avoid detection.

“However, our investigation as well as information from the public have successfully uncovered them,” he said, adding that the drugs were meant for the Klang Valley market.

Comm Hussein said all the suspects have been remanded for seven days, starting Nov 3 and 4.
