MORE than 150,000 visitors are expected to visit the “Space and You Exploration Experience” exhibition at Toppen Shopping Centre in Johor Baru.
Meta Doers Innovation Sdn Bhd chairman Wilson Lin Wei Hsien said the exhibition would be open for a year, targeting primary and secondary schoolchildren in Johor and Singapore.
“‘This is one of our key programmes after the huge success of ‘Van Gogh Alive’ in Kuala Lumpur last December and in Jakarta, Indonesia, from July to October this year.
“This time, we want to attract students to be part of our immersive experience exhibitions as we believe that teaching and learning can be conducted outside of classrooms.
“We got more than 160,000 visitors for ‘Van Gogh Alive’, so we hope to get around the same figure for the ‘Space and You’ exhibition,” he said.
He was speaking after the exhibition launch by Johor Education Department (learning) deputy director Mohd Hanafi Abdul Samad.
Lin said that through the exhibition, students would be able to experience space exploration and learn how the universe works.
“The exhibition covers a diverse range of sectors including the vast universe, space suit experience, aerospace journey, interstellar exploration, cosmic wonder, realms of outer space light years away, the remains of the universe and space commemoration.
“We believe that space exploration is one of the topics that can open up their minds,” he said.
The exhibition will run until the end of March next year.
“Next April, we plan to hold an exhibition on the history of Chinese people in South-East Asia, followed by a Pablo Picasso art exhibition,” said Lin.
He said 800 free tickets were given away to non-governmental organisations, including Johor Cerebral Palsy Association and Raja Zarith Sofiah of Johor Foundation to encourage children to visit the space education exhibition.
