MACC officers claim trial to robbing Chinese businessman of almost RM1mil

PETALING JAYA: Two officers and a former officer from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) have pleaded not guilty in two Sessions Courts here to robbing a Chinese businessman of almost RM1mil at a luxury residence two years ago.

Muhamad Haffiz Mohd Radzi, 33, Mohd Fahmee Mohamad Nor, 41, and Azwan Asli, 38, claimed trial to the charge before judges Izralizam Sanusi dan Siti Aminah Ghazali.

They were charged with committing gang robbery on the property of Kun Gao amounting to RM952,690, as well as 1,225 yuan, a piece of silver luggage and a black Louis Vuitton bag at a residence in Jalan Ampang here at midnight on Dec 10, 2021.

The charge under Section 395 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping if convicted.

During the proceeding before Izralizam, DPP Izalina Abdullah had proposed that bail for Muhamad Haffiz and Mohd Fahmee should be set at RM30,000 each with one surety.

“It includes additional conditions to report to the nearest police station every month and hand their passports to the court,” she said.

However, lawyer Ravichandaran Selliah representing Muhamad Haffiz pleaded for his client to be given a lower bail amount as he had to support his family, including two children aged five and two.

Mohd Fahmee’s lawyer R. Vikraman said his client had to pay alimony to his ex-wife and support their child.

Izralizam then allowed each accused bail of RM12,000 each with one surety and fixed Feb 5 for mention.

Before Aminah in the other court, Vikraman – who is also representing Azwan – also requested a lower bail amount.

The judge then set bail at RM10,000 with one surety, with case mention also fixed for Feb 5.

In December 2021, Sinar Harian reported that two individuals including an MACC officer were arrested by police to assist in the investigation of a robbery case involving RM700,000 in losses.
