G57’s Zulkarnain threatens to sue Warisan’s Azis Jamman for defamation

KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar who has refused to apologise for alleging Parti Warisan is connected to a busted Sabah drug cartel is now threatening to sue Datuk Azis Jamman for defamation.

Zulkarnain, who is Gerakan Kuasa Malaysia (G57) chairman, said he was prepared to sue Azis, who is Sepanggar Warisan chief, for RM150mil if Azis failed to apologise for defaming him.

In a Facebook post on Sunday (June 7), Zulkarnain threatened to sue the former deputy home minister who demanded an apology and threatened to file a RM100mil defamation suit against the G57 chairman.

“As a political activist for almost 30 years, I have never once released a slanderous statement to anyone.

“I will not make any apology to Parti Warisan including former Sepanggar MP Azis Jamman,” he said in his statement posted on Facebook.

On June 4, Zulkarnain had lodged a police report that Parti Warisan may be linked with a drug cartel.

Referring to the police report, he said that an unknown individual had tipped him off on the alleged link between Sepanggar Warisan and the drug cartel.

“I have openly said that I don’t know if this information could be trusted and only the police can determine it,” he said.

On Jan 6, Azis told a press conference that he wanted Zulkarnain to apologise over his supposed claim that linked Sepanggar Warisan to the drug cartel.

Azis said that Zulkarnain had made the allegation without first verifying it with the Sepanggar Warisan.

A police report was also lodged by Warisan following Zulkarnain’s report and statement.

The party had also lodged several reports against several others who had made similar allegations on social media.

Warisan secretary-general Datuk Loretto Padua had dismissed the claims as unfounded and urged people to let the police investigate the case.
