Hulu Kelang sandbox for S’gor smart city solutions

HULU Kelang district will be the testing ground for Selangor’s smart city solutions.

Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) signed a memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with CelcomDigi Bhd for both parties to explore and implement potential 5G technology solutions delivered on a solid fibre optics infrastructure.

The initiative aimed to build a smart city ecosystem that would elevate the livelihood of residents and accelerate the growth of businesses in Hulu Kelang.

Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the district was the sandbox for smart solutions.

It would see the installation of smart traffic lights and poles equipped with lights and closed-circuit television cameras, among others.

“The district has a mix of residential and commercial areas that will greatly benefit from the 5G network. Schools will also benefit from it.

“There has been a lot of talk on the Internet of Things and Big Data Analysis.

“In simple terms, it means that we have to move towards smart living, which means adoption of smart solutions in our daily lives,” he said after witnessing the signing ceremony at the MPAJ Convention Centre in Taman Melawati, Selangor.

Amirudin said the state would continue discussing with CelcomDigi and other telecommunications providers on efforts to expedite its smart city goals.

CelcomDigi chief executive officer Datuk Mohamad Idham Nawawi said the company was working closely with MPAJ to assess and identify the best smart city solutions to transform Hulu Kelang into an integrated digital district.

“We aim to leverage local and global technology partnerships to develop this ecosystem, which hopefully can serve as a model for other municipalities,” he said.

The MOU, marking the 10-year collaboration, is in support of MPAJ’s “Smart City Framework”, to transform Ampang Jaya into a smart city with a focus on smart infrastructure, economy, community, environment and governance.

Also present was MPAJ president Dr Ani Ahmad.
