Part-time model charged with lover’s murder

PETALING JAYA: A part-time model has been charged with killing her lover.

A. Tamilselvi, 26, clad in purple lock-up garb, nodded to indicate that she understood the charge when it was read out before Magistrate Maslinda Selamat in Teluk Datok, Kuala Langat on Friday (March 22).

However, no plea was recorded as murder cases come under the purview of the High Court, Sinar Harian reported.

According to the charge sheet, the accused killed V. Gawsigan, 26, at a house in Rimbayu Perennia at Jalan Flora 3D/6, Teluk Panglima Garang, Kuala Langat at around 5.30am on March 11.

The former medical student was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and faces the death sentence, or up to 40 years’ jail with no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane, if found guilty.

Her lawyer Ethan Tan said his client was suffering from bipolar disorder (BPD) and had trouble recalling incidents on the day in question.

He also asked that she be referred to a hospital for mental evaluation.

“The accused has heart disease and needs a pacemaker,” he added.

DPP Khadijah Amir Hamzah did not offer any bail as the offence was non-bailable.

She said there was no documented evidence from the defence of either BPD or heart disease.

After listening to the arguments, Maslinda rejected the defence application and ordered Tan to produce documents on the mental and physical health of the accused during the next mention of the case on April 25.

She also asked for the toxicology, post-mortem, chemical and medical reports to be produced in court on that date.

It was reported on March 12 that a man died after allegedly being stabbed by his lover.

It is believed the incident was triggered by jealousy as the suspect thought the deceased, a photographer, was being unfaithful.

The suspect was arrested in the vicinity of Hospital Cyberjaya at around 12.30pm on March 11 when she brought the victim there for treatment.

Attempts by doctors to revive him through CPR failed.
