Change or be chained, Bukit Aman warns rogue cops

KUALA LUMPUR: Change or you will be chained – that is the message from Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain to his officers and personnel.

His “modified” call comes after a senior officer with the Criminal Investigation Department was arrested for alleged graft.

“My previous message (to all officers) was ‘change or be changed’.

“In light of the latest development, it is appropriate for me to modify it to ‘change or be chained’.

“You will pay the price for what you did,” he told a press conference at the federal police headquarters here yesterday.

His warning about handcuffing wrongdoers followed the arrest by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Saturday of the senior CID officer, who is in his 40s and attached to the KL police contingent.

The suspect is believed to have taken bribes since 2021 in order not to take action against certain individuals involved in vice, gangsterism and illegal gambling.

“I am consistent with my approach and action in fully supporting the action by the MACC on any wrongdoing.

“I will leave it to MACC to fully investigate the matter.

“I have never compromised on any wrongdoing by any CID officers or personnel,” said Comm Mohd Shuhaily.

On another matter, the CID chief said it was not the first time that Ganesparan Nadaraja had touched on 3R (race, religion and royalty) sensitivities.

“He is not a new character, especially to reporters on the crime desk.

“Up until yesterday (Tuesday) we have opened 22 cases against him. When we investigated him in 2018, we found that he had left the country and until today, his return has yet to be detected.

“So we believe the viral videos involving him lately have been done overseas,” said Comm Mohd Shuhaily.

He added that the suspect had already been charged in absentia previously and is believed to be residing in a European country.

Previously, the Malaysian police had made a request to Interpol to list Ganesparan under the Red Notice, said Comm Shuhaily.

“However, according to Interpol, the comments made by Ganesparan did not meet the specific requirements to put him under the notice,” he said.

A Red Notice is an international alert for a wanted person but not an arrest warrant.

Ganesparan has once again courted controversy after uploading new videos in which he went on a tirade against the royal institution, Islamic bodies and others.
