Contractor claims trial to grievous hurt and sexual assault charges

MELAKA: A 35-year-old contractor has claimed trial to charges of allegedly causing grievous hurt to his girlfriend and sexually assaulting her daughter.

See Yong Fei pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Khairunnisak Hassni at the Magistrate’s Court in Ayer Keroh here during the first proceeding.

According to the charge sheet, See allegedly inflicted severe injuries on the 38-year-old woman by repeatedly striking and punching her face and limbs, in addition to kicking her back, resulting in fractures to several parts of her body.

The altercation between the couple, who lived in the same house, allegedly erupted over a disagreement regarding the purchase of vegetables.

The offence was allegedly committed at a residential unit in Taman Desa Bertam, Melaka Tengah district, around 11:28 PM on May 7.

If convicted, the accused could be jailed for up to seven years and also fined.

Deputy public prosecutor Wardah Isshar appeared for the prosecution, while the accused, who is a father of five children, was represented by lawyer Kelvinder Singh Sidhu.

The victim’s legal team, comprising counsel Kent Tan Chow Teng, Cassian Anthony, and Francis Augustine were also present during the proceeding.

The court granted bail of RM5,000 to the accused.

In a separate proceeding, See pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexually assaulting his girlfriend’s 14-year-old daughter.

The charge under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 was read before Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah in the Sessions Court.

If convicted, See Yong Fei faces a maximum prison term of up to 20 years and whipping.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Syazwanie Marizan appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by the same lawyer.

The court granted bail of RM10,000, with an additional condition requiring the accused to report to the nearest police station once a month until the conclusion of the case proceedings.

Both courts scheduled the next mention date for July 31.
