State govt commits RM9mil to national parks

THE state government has allocated more than RM9mil to upgrade the infrastructure of four national parks in Johor.

Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said upgrading works were underway at the Gunung Ledang waterfalls, Gunung Ledang Lagenda, Tanjung Piai Johor National Park and Endau-Rompin Peta Johor National Park.

“The state government, through the Johor National Parks Council, is committed to upgrading ecotourism infrastructure at the four national parks.

“The upgrades involve infrastructure and amenities in those parks and are part of our preparation for Visit Johor Year 2026 to welcome tourists into our national parks,” the Yong Peng assemblyman told StarMetro.

He said RM9.6mil was channelled to fund upgrades at the four parks, which had always attracted a high number of local and foreign visitors.

“The state has allocated more than RM2.1mil to Tanjung Piai Johor National Park to improve its infrastructure, repair the watchtower and signage.

“Another RM2mil is for upgrading public amenities including infrastructure and related works at Endau-Rompin Peta Johor National Park,” he said.

Ling also said the council was also improving tourism infrastructure at the Gunung Ledang waterfall with an allocation of more than RM3.7mil.

Among the works are making the area friendly to electric vehicles and caravan owners, upgrading its facilities including repairing and improving public toilets, he said.

“We are also allocating some RM1.3mil to build a gallery, improve tourism infrastructure, signage installation and other related works at Gunung Ledang Lagenda Johor National Park,” he said.

Ling added that some RM400,000 would be spent to improve the signage at the park.

He said all the parks would remain open and there would be no closures, despite upgrading works.
