AI artistry makes waves to save the turtles

IT’s an extraordinary art exhibition like no other. For the first time ever in Sabah, an artificially generated art extravaganza is taking centre stage to shine a spotlight on turtle and marine conservation.

Featuring over 30 captivating art pieces, this groundbreaking exhibition at the Upside Down house in Tuaran is not your ordinary art show – it’s a futuristic voyage into the world of AI creativity.

According to Alexander Yee, the mastermind behind the event space hosting the unique exhibition, the colours pop with vibrancy and the artworks have a distinct futuristic flair.

“We’re hoping to draw people in with these mesmerising creations and get them excited about protecting our precious turtles and marine ecosystem,” he said.

How AI imagines what Sabah will be like in the next 100 years where nature coexists with economic development.

The brainchild of a Singaporean friend, Roy Wang, the idea to blend AI technology with art stemmed from a desire to engage young minds in marine conservation, Yee said.

“We wanted to think outside the box and create something truly innovative to raise awareness,” he explained.

“In the exhibition, you will join a fictional group of sea turtle superheroes, called the Guardians of the Tides, on a visually stunning journey that transcends traditional art boundaries, inspiring action for sea turtle conservation,” he said.

“This exhibition isn’t just about admiring art; it’s a call to action, a celebration of creativity, and an invitation to preserve the beauty of our oceans,” emphasised Yee, who is actively involved in conservation efforts.

But the fun doesn’t stop there! Alongside the mesmerising artworks, visitors can dive into origami folding activities themed around turtles, adding an interactive twist to the immersive experience.

Step into the realm of the ‘Guardians of the Tides’, a fictional group of sea turtle superheroes who aim to inspire action for turtle conservation.

Wang shed light on the creative process behind these awe-inspiring pieces. Using specialised software that goes beyond your typical mobile app, Wang and his team input specific keywords to generate AI art that mirrors their vision.

“After the AI works its magic, we add our human touch to refine the pieces, making them more realistic and less robotic,” Wang explained.

The result? A diverse collection of artworks that reflect a fusion of technology and artistic expression.
