Assemblyman says RM300,000 allocation for 50-year-old Bekok clinic timely

UPGRADING the Bekok health clinic in Segamat, Johor, will provide a more comfortable environment for patients.

Bekok assemblyman Tan Chong said the health clinic was close to 50 years old and in need of repairs.

“I have frequently received complaints from my constituents about its facilities and many also requested for it to be upgraded.

“I am glad that their voices have been heard by the state government, as health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon recently announced that RM300,000 has been allocated to upgrade the Bekok health clinic,” said Tan.

He said the works that would be carried out were repairs to the roof, wiring system, infrastructure, road and paint jobs.

He added that he hoped that the project could begin soon to benefit the locals, as well as the healthcare personnel working at the clinic.

Tan says he frequently receives complaints about the clinic.

At a recent mobile clinic programme in Labis, Ling had said Johor had received a federal allocation of RM16.9mil to upgrade and improve the healthcare facilities and services at 56 health and rural clinics statewide.

He said the Bekok health clinic and Felda Kemelah rural clinic were among the facilities that would be upgraded soon with a funding of RM300,000 and RM200,000 respectively.

Some of the works would include toilet upgrades and roof replacements, Ling had said.

“Unlike previously where the works were carried out separately, we will be conducting the large-scale upgrades at once.

“Many clinics in the state are 40 to 50 years old, where some have fallen into disrepair.

“The government aims to focus on upgrading these facilities in the next two years,” he said.

Ling added that 43 government clinics had undergone upgrades last year.

There are more than 300 government clinics (both health clinics and rural clinics) in Johor.
