CHARMAINE Sheh (pic) won the coveted Best Actress Award at the TVB Awards Presentation 2023, making her the first leading lady of the Hong Kong broadcaster to win the title three times, China Press reported.

She was crowned for her role in The Queen of News about the competitive world of news anchors.

Previously, she won the award for her performances in Maidens’ Vow (2006) and Line Walker (2014).

Sheh, 48, also clinched Malaysia’s Most Favourite Lead Actress Award and Greater Bay Area’s Most Favourite Lead Actress Award during the ceremony held in Macau on Sunday.

Moses Chan, 52, was Best Actor for his role in Narcotics Heroes.

His wife, actress Aimee Chan, was in tears after presenting him with the award.

The Queen of News was also named the Best Drama Series and emerged as the biggest winner with eight awards.

Sheh’s co-star in the series, Samantha Ko, walked away as the Best Supporting Actress.

> Bears being spotted in various parts of Japan this winter at a time when the animal should be hibernating have sparked concerns among experts, China Press also reported.

Some experts believe that a warmer winter and less snow this year may have caused the bears to be unaware that it is the time of the year for them to hibernate.

A bear cub was reportedly trapped between two glass doors of a hypermarket in Kitakami, Iwate prefecture, for about two hours, while over in Akita prefecture, a bear invaded the courtyard of a house.

Iwate University College of Agriculture associate professor Takayoshi Yamauchi, who specialises in wildlife, said bears not hibernating could be due to them not having enough to eat.

“This is because Zelkova trees in the Tohoku region did not fruit much last year… With less snow, bears will venture out of the mountains in search of food in areas where humans live,” he said.
