Bukit Aman: We’ll probe Zayn ‘investigation papers’

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman will investigate the spread of what is said to be Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin’s murder investigation papers on social media, says Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.

The Bukit Aman CID director said police were aware what was posted on a Telegram channel pertaining to the Zayn Rayyan’s case.

“This is an irresponsible thing to do as it might disrupt the trial proceedings. Anything involving the (Zayn Rayyan) investigation must come from official authorities,” he told a press conference at Bukit Aman yesterday.

Comm Mohd Shuhaily said police were tracking down those who spread the so-called investigation case facts.

“We will get to the bottom of it. It doesn’t do justice to the sacrifice and hard work of all police officers and personnel who investigated the case,” he said.

He said police would seek assistance from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to take down the social media post.

He also explained that investigation into Zayn Rayyan’s case had been completed with the charging of the parents.

“As I have said yesterday, our part in investigating the case has concluded with the prosecution of Zayn Rayyan’s parents.

“If there is a new revelation during the trial and the Deputy Public Prosecutor instruct us to investigate further, we will do so,” he said.

He was commenting on defence lawyer Fahmi Abd Moin’s statement claiming that investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder was still ongoing until the real culprit was detained.

Meanwhile, the Social Welfare Department will apply for temporary custody of Zayn Rayyan’s younger brother, said its Selangor director Azmir Kassim.

He said the department would seek a period of time for them to identify a guardian or a qualified and suitable individual to take care of the child.

“We will get the temporary court order to take the child for a (medical) check by today (yesterday).

“We will also request for a period of time from the court, maybe a month or two, to look for a guardian or qualified and suitable person to care for the child,” he said, BK reported.

The child’s parents had been informed of the matter, Azmir added.

“The child is confused, he doesn’t quite grasp the situation. But so far (he’s) okay. We have placed him in a hospital for a medical check-up first,” he said.
