Chinese minister Liu Jianchao meets with PKR senior officials led by Nurul Izzah

KUALA LUMPUR: A delegation of senior officials of the PKR led by its vice-president, Nurul Izzah Anwar, on Tuesday (May 14), met with the Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Liu Jianchao, in Beijing.

According to an article published on the International Department of the CPC Central Committee webpage (idcpc.org.cn), Nurul Izzah said in the meeting that Malaysia attaches great importance to its relations with China and China’s tremendous achievements in economic and social development are admirable.

She said that compared with the CPC, PKR is a young political party, and she hopes to learn more about China and the CPC through the visit, including learning from China’s experience in poverty alleviation.

“Malaysia cherishes the tradition of independence and a pluralistic society. At present, world peace and development, including supply chain stability, are facing many challenges, and the Malaysian side is willing to work with the Chinese side to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region jointly,” she said.

Noting that it was her first overseas visit since becoming the vice-president of PKR, she said this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.

“It is no coincidence that our delegation comprises 50 members,” she said.

Meanwhile, Liu said that China-Malaysia relations have enjoyed strong development under the joint guidance of President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said China is ready to work with Malaysia to implement the consensus reached by their leaders, enhance strategic mutual trust, respect each other’s core interests and major concerns, and strengthen the political foundation for a China-Malaysia community with a shared future.

“At present, momentous changes are accelerating worldwide, and the Asia-Pacific region, on the whole, has maintained peace and stability. This doesn’t come easily.

“The Chinese side is ready to work with Asean countries to promote common development in the region and bring more benefits to the people,” he said during the meeting.

He said the CPC values its relationship with PKR and aims to strengthen bilateral relations by enhancing high-level exchanges, strategic communication, and cooperation through the “political party +” platform.

“It is hoped that the young generation of the two parties will strengthen communication and contribute to the long-term, sound and stable development of the relations between the two parties and the two countries,” he added, noting that the youth represents the future. – BK
