Community centre set up for Jinjang new villagers

RESIDENTS can avail themselves of various services and activities at the Jinjang Utara Community Centre from next month.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng, who launched the centre, said all the services and activities would be free except for a few, where the organisers need to pay a token sum for the use of electricity and expenses to keep the place clean.

“The token sum will only apply to programmes that last a whole day or more and events with large crowds.

“The price will also depend on the scale of the events,” he said, adding that the building belonged to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

Among the services provided include a townhall session every Saturday from 10am to 1pm, where either Lim or Kampung Baru Jinjang Federal Village Development and Security Committee (JPKKP) chairman Raymond Soh would be present to assist the public.

“One of the services is signing relevant documents to be submitted to government agencies.

Residents will only have to pay a token sum to use the facility.

“We will also listen to the public and help them resolve any problems they may face,” he added.

Lim said on the last Saturday of each month, from 10am to 1pm, there would be free legal consultation where two to three lawyers would be present.

“The consultation sessions will be open to both citizens and non-citizens,” he said, adding that both the townhall and legal consultation sessions would not be available on public holidays.

Free taekwondo classes will be available every Saturday from 6pm to 7pm to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Lim also encouraged individuals and groups to approach his team or the Kampung Baru Jinjang JPKKP to organise events at the community centre.

He invited the public to suggest community-based activities suitable for senior citizens.

“Malaysia is slowly moving towards becoming an ageing nation, so it will be good to come together and generate ideas to improve the lives of senior citizens,” he added.
