Company ordered to refund purchaser as fabric took five months to be delivered

Norahida ordered the fabric in November but only received it in April.

A GROUP of teachers had to wait five months for delivery of fabric they had ordered from a batik maker in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan.

Teacher Norahida Ahmad said they paid RM1,010 for the items on Nov 18, 2023, after viewing the product on social media.

“We were supposed to get them within a week or two, giving us enough time to have the fabric tailored into baju kurung,” she said when met outside the Johor Consumer Claims Tribunal in Menara Ansar, Johor Baru.

The claimant said the yellow coloured batik would have been turned into 11 pairs of baju kurung, which the teachers planned to wear at school events.

They did not receive their order after several weeks and Norahida said the company claimed they had sent the parcel to Johor Baru.

“But they could not provide us the tracking number and even blamed the courier for the late delivery,” said Norahida.

“The company later blocked my number and I decided to lodge a complaint with the tribunal on April 11.”

Norahida said they managed to deliver a notice of demand to the company, via hand delivery through a friend in Kubang Kerian, and the representative was supposed to attend the hearing.

“The package finally arrived on April 28, after the company received the notice.

“I attended the hearing on the same day but the respondent did not turn up,” she said.

“By the time the parcel arrived, we had bought 15 pairs of readymade baju kurung on April 14, priced at RM907.

“We decided not to open the package sent by the batik maker as we wanted a refund.”

Asked why they had decided to buy from the seller, Norahida said they relied on reviews by those who were satisfied with the company’s goods and service.

Tribunal president Lee Chee Thim ordered the respondent to refund RM1,010 to the claimant within two weeks.

“At the same time, you must also return the package to the respondent within two weeks. But you must only do it upon receiving the refund,” he told Norahida.
