Cops to produce photo-fit of suspect in acid attack case, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is expected to produce a photo-fit of a suspect over the acid-splashing attack on national footballer Faisal Halim.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the department, led by Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, will prepare the photo-fit soon.

“For the time being, the CID will produce the photo-fit and from there we will be able to gather even more information.

“We will send the fingerprints lifted from the shopping mall recently, for analysis as well,” he told reporters after attending the Autism Day event at the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM)/Pengaman Autism Centre in the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) on Saturday (May 11).

So far, the statements of more than 12 individuals had been recorded in connection with the case, the IGP said.

“We recorded the statements of more than 12 individuals, including Faisal’s family members, doctors, and important witnesses.

“As for Faisal, we have already recorded his statement early in the investigation,” he said.

It was reported that winger Faisal Halim, who is also known as Mickey, suffered an acid attack on May 5 at a shopping mall in Kota Damansara.

The reason behind the attack was uncertain.

Images of his injury had gone viral on social media and many netizens were in shock that such an incident could happen to a national football player.

Prior to that, his Harimau Malaya teammate Akhyar Rashid was robbed in Kuala Terengganu and suffered cuts and bruises on May 2.

On May 7 night, former national captain Safiq Rahim escaped unhurt after two men broke his rear windscreen in Johor Baru.

The 36-year-old, who plays for Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) revealed the incident on his social media account by posting a police report.
