Suggestions for Iskandar Puteri include art street, structure

Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) plans to come up with a structure or spot suitable for photo-taking as a public attraction.

Mayor Datuk Mohd Haffiz Ahmad said there was a need to have an iconic place in the city, especially since people now loved to post photos of popular spots on social media.

“As this is the administrative centre of Johor government, we are keen to look into the matter.

“It can be just a simple structure and we do not have to spend millions of ringgit on this,” he said during his closing speech at the full council meeting.

On a separate matter, Mohd Haffiz urged all MBIP staff, officers and department heads to improve their services.

“This is especially important as we will be collecting an increased amount of taxes next year and the public expects improvement in services.”

Earlier, MBIP councillor Nur Diyana Ra’il agreed in her winding-up speech that it would be good to set up a social media-friendly structure or art street in Iskandar Puteri to attract photo enthusiasts and tourists.

“For example, many people are willing to go to Muar just to take photos because of all the interesting places there.

“I suggest old Gelang Patah town be redeveloped into an Instagrammable attraction,” she said.

Nur Diyana also pointed out the need for MBIP to improve its services and information sharing platform for the public.

“As councillors, we are the ones who have to face the public whenever they bring up their concerns or issues.

“Unfortunately, there are times when we are unable to defend MBIP and its administration due to the slow response from officers and department heads.

“This paints a bad picture of MBIP, especially as this is one of the top five best local councils in the country,” she added.
