A STEAMBOAT or “lok-lok” seller and other illegal traders in Kuala Lumpur had their belongings confiscated during an enforcement operation by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
A popular lok-lok trader, who was operating illegally along Jalan Ampang, in front of LRT Ampang Park, had placed tables and chairs on the sidewalk, causing obstruction.
During the DBKL operation, items confiscated included tables, chairs, a vehicle and electric scooters.
DBKL’s Enforcement Department also took action against unlicensed premises and those operated by foreigners at Jalan Haji Hussein.
“Action was also taken against six owners of restaurants or stalls as well as local and foreign traders without licence.
“This is the second time enforcement was carried out at the same areas, with the first operation done on Jan 18,” DBKL said in a press statement.
The team took action under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 and Trades, Businesses and Industries Licensing of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (WPKL) 2016 by-laws.
“Enforcement will be carried out on operators, such as food and beverage traders, who commit offences by operating without a licence, misuse their licences or cause obstruction,” said DBKL.
DBKL said the confiscated items were sent to its storage facility in Taman Miharja for processing and documentation.
During the first operation, DBKL seized items belonging to unlicensed vendors and foreign traders around Jalan Alor, Bukit Bintang.
There were two cases of relocation of goods or equipment placed in public spaces against restaurant and shopowners; nine cases of unlicensed local vendors and four against unlicensed foreign vendors.
DBKL also issued one enforcement notice under Section 46 of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974, two compound notices for unlicensed vendors and two compound notices for employing foreign assistant stallholders under the Licensing of Hawkers and Food Placement (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur) By-laws 2016 (UUK22).
