Discounts offered on Selayang parking fines

NEXT month, Selayang motorists will have the opportunity to settle outstanding parking compounds at a reduced rate.

From Aug 1 until Sept 30, Selayang Municipal Council is conducting a campaign to recover some RM14mil in unpaid parking fines.

“A RM10 discount is offered for every compound ticket. Hopefully, those with parking fines will take up this offer,” said MPS president Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi after the council’s monthly full board meeting at Menara MPS.

Payments can also be made via the Flexi Parking and Smart Selangor Parking apps, he said.

According to MPS, 326,558 parking compounds were issued during the first seven months of this year.

Of this, only 111,678 compounds were paid, amounting to RM1.25mil.

Meanwhile, to a suggestion by MPS councillor Wan Anwar Wan Ibrahim for an “amnesty” period on enforcement during the two weeks of state election campaign duration, Mohd Yazid responded that the rule of law would still apply.

“We cannot have a blanket statement allowing leniency over parking rules just for the campaigning period.

“We have to consider that the majority of complaints (on parking offences) come from the public, who want us to take action,” he told StarMetro.

During the full board meeting, Wan Anwar had proposed that leeway be given to Selayang residents as there would be intensified movement of vehicles in the area between July 29 and polling day on Aug 12.

On another matter, MPS has issued 28,248 attachment warrants between April 1 and June 30 to errant property owners who incurred more than RM200 in arrears.

Mohd Yazid said defaulters would have to pay an additional charge of RM100 for each warrant.

“Reminders and notices for ratepayers to pay their second-term assessment have been issued via email and SMS.”

Payment can be made via the MyMPS app as well as through the Lazada, Shopee and Cepat apps. The deadline is Aug 31.
