DLP will be implemented in Sabah, says state Education director

KOTA KINABALU: The Dual Language Programme (DLP) will be implemented in Sabah, says state Education Department director Datuk Raisin Saidin.

However, he said that there were certain considerations including availability of proficient English teachers for the DLP to be fully implemented in the state.

“We need to ensure that the programme is successfully implemented within six years without interruption, and we need teachers proficient in English… this is something that I believe needs serious attention,” he added.

Raisin said that to fully implement the DLP in Sabah there must also be full acceptance and preparedness by the students themselves.

“We encourage every school in all districts in Sabah to implement the DLP.

“The selection of schools to implement the DLP begins with the school itself requesting the Education Department,” he told reporters Wednesday (April 17) after attending the Sabah New Education Landscape under the Madani Tour Programme 2024 here.

He said the Sabah government was keen to see the DLP to be introduced in state schools and as such the state Education Department will take measures for its implementation to ensure it positively impacts education in the state.

On the new education roadmap for the state, he said the state Education Department remains committed towards creating a new education landscape under a seven point target to create excellence for students, schools and the education system.

Among the goals is to achieve the National Average Grade Performance (GPN) for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) from this year at the school and district level.

He said among the focuses was to create a centre of academic excellence at schools with boarding facilities.

Other targets included rehabilitating dilapidated schools and reaching zero disciplinary cases among education staff in 2024.
