Don’t ever refuse to take a police report, KL top cop warns his men

KUALA LUMPUR: The refusal to take a police report is a grave disciplinary violation and I take this very seriously, says the city’s top cop.

When met after the monthly assembly at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters, City police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid did not hold back when asked on the issue.

“Stop this nonsense. I am saying this to all those serving in Kuala Lumpur; all six police districts and 26 police stations.

“There is no such thing as refusing to take a police report. The report must be taken before being classified by officers who have been given the power to do so,” he said.

Comm Allaudeen was responding to reports of several policemen that had refused to take the police report of a man that was allegedly extorted by four policemen.

“I have said this multiple times; any police report must be taken. In this case we have identified those that had refused to accept the report and JIPS (Integrity and Standards Compliance Department) KL have started their investigation.

“I will take strict action. This is serious,” he said.

Previously a man had been allegedly extorted by four policemen near an apartment in Kepong.

It is alleged that multiple attempts to file a report were made but he was refused until his third attempt on Jan 4.

In a previous statement on the alleged extortion, Comm Allaudeen said that four suspects aged between 29 and 41 years old had been arrested.

In his address to his men, Comm Allaudeen said that those who performed their duties well would be given their due recognition via letters of appreciation and those who abused their powers would be investigated.

“I mean business. I have instructed all district police chiefs to take action to prevent these ‘segelintir’ (few) from continuing to tarnish the police name. There’s no two ways about it. If we need to charge we will; if we need to take disciplinary action we will,” he said.
