Factory owners hoping signboard in industrial park will become a landmark

FACTORY owners in Taming Jaya Industrial Park, Balakong, expect a newly launched signboard there to become a landmark to guide outsiders to their industrial area.

The cost of building and installing the signboard was fully funded by the Taming Jaya Industrial Park Association, said association chairman Edwin Yan.

“We forked out RM15,000 for the signboard.

“We hope this structure will make our industrial park more easily identifiable,” he said at a press conference attended by Balakong assemblyman Wayne Ong Chun Wei, Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) councillor Billy Sun Kin Wah and several association members.

Sun said it was not easy obtaining approval for the signboard.

“We have been tackling the matter for the past five years.

“Since the site where the signboard was to be installed was on government land, we had to go through several government departments to obtain the necessary approval,” said Sun, who did not name the government agency that owned the site.

Ong said, “I am currently lobbying for more funds to upgrade the infrastructure within the industrial park, including drains and roads.”

Earlier on the same day, Ong and Sun visited Kampung Baru Balakong.

The roads at the new village have been riddled with potholes for more than a year.

Hulu Langat New Village development officer Jeffrey Hoh Mun Onn said the situation worsened whenever it rained, pointing out that some villagers had been injured due to the potholes.

“The good news is that the Local Government Development Ministry (KPKT) allocated RM200,000 to fix the potholes along four streets.

“The four streets are Jalan Besar (180m stretch), Jalan KB 1/10 (280m), Jalan KB 1/10a (62m), and Jalan KB 2/11 (68m).

“We also plan to build a 20m extension for Jalan KB 1/10a.”

Hoh said the road resurfacing works were completed last month.

“We will now draw lines on the roads and carry out a testing run to ensure they are safe for users before fully reopening to traffic,” he said.

Sun said KPKT’s allocation for road resurfacing in Kampung Baru Balakong was much welcomed, as MPKj could now use its funds on flood mitigation measures.

Meanwhile, Ong said the state government had announced an RM4mil allocation for infrastructure development in rural areas under the Selangor 2024 Budget.

“The Federal Government also allocated RM100mil for new village development under Budget 2024. That gives us two sources of funds to improve facilities in new villages.

“New villages have been around for decades and there is a need to constantly maintain and upgrade their infrastructure,” he said.
