Five charged with gang robbery of semiconductor factory

IPOH: Five men were charged at a Sessions Court here for committing gang robbery at a semiconductor factory.

Mohd Nizam Abd Rahim, 40; Junaidy Ali, 46; Muhamad Rozaidi Yusoff,42; Rizuan Mohamad Yusof, 32; and Zairul Nizam Mohd Sazali, 47; claimed trial to the charges before Sessions Court Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad on Tuesday (Oct 3).

According to the charge sheet, the five had, on Sept 14, at about 8.45pm at the Carsem Factory on Jalan Lapangan Terbang, Taman Maju Rapat, near here, with intention, robbed a foreign guard at the factory named Chhetri Purna Bahadur by stealing the rejected units of chips at the factory’s scrap store.

They were charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery, and the five could face a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

Mohd Nizam, Muhammad Rozaidi, Rizuan Mohamad and Zairul Nizam were represented by counsel Dayang Nor Emilia Azman Shah, while Junaidy was represented by lawyer A. Logaprieyan.

During mitigation, Logaprieyan said his client earned RM800 monthly as a farmer, had to take care of his aging parents, and suffered from a testicular disorder.

Dayang Nor Emilia said Mohd Nizam who worked as a security guard had five children, one of whom is disabled.

She added that Muhammad Rozaidi worked as a contract labourer who had three school-going children, and earned about RM1,000 per month.

“For Rizuan, who is a small-time fisherman from Penang, he only earns RM500 per month, and has four children.

“Zairul Nizam, a lorry attendant, has three children, and earns RM1,000 per month,” she said, when requesting for lower bail.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Nazreen Zabarudin requested that bail be set at RM10,000 for each of the accused.

Judge Ainul Shahrin then fixed bail at RM4,000 with one surety for each of the accused.

Mention date is set for Nov 15.
