Full-time workers set up part-time stalls at bazaar

FOR several Ramadan bazaar traders in Ampang Jaya, Selangor, any chance to earn a little extra is worth the hard work and time spent.

Some of these traders with regular day jobs have set up stalls at the Pandan Indah Ramadan bazaar to supplement their income.

Factory technician Shamsul Kamar said he would rush from his day job to set up his takoyaki (Japanese inspired street food) stall.

“The money earned from operating at the bazaar is used for unexpected expenses or emergencies.

“It can be a good side business, but we have to make sure that the food we sell tastes good and is not expensive,” he said.

Shamsul added that his family had been operating at the same bazaar for the past 10 years.

“This location is strategic and we have many repeat customers who like our takoyaki,” he said.

Similarly, air con service technician Mohd Izam Abdullah is focusing on his grilled fish stall at the bazaar during Ramadan.

He said there was typically a regular stream of customers at the bazaar, making it an ideal location.

“I took the month off to focus on the stall.

“We have to be at the pasar (wet market) before 6am each day to make sure we get fresh seafood,” he said.

Some of their popular items are grilled clam, squid and fish.

Rohayu Ab Halim was spotted selling the Kelantanese speciality of nasi kerabu.

The distinctive blue-hued steamed rice is sold with an option of various meat dishes, ulam and coconut sambal.

This year, there are 894 stalls operating at 17 bazaar locations in Ampang Jaya.

The Pandan Indah Ramadan bazaar features 114 lots and a variety of food.
