SARAWAK stakeholders have been urged to organise more international events in the state.

Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Deputy Minister II Datuk Snowdan Lawan said, “The state government, through my ministry, will fully support local industry stakeholders in hosting events including international ones by providing Heritage, Arts, and Culture Facilitation funding, Tourism Event grants, and various other initiatives.”

Speaking at the M.O (Mizta Otine) Sarawak annual gala dinner in Sibu, he said international events would bring more visitors to the state.

The Balai Ringin assemblyman encouraged M.O Sarawak and the Sarikei Dayak Talent Association to consider hosting an international fashion show.

“Several fashion designers from the peninsula have approached our ministry with proposals.”

At the function, Snowdan announced an allocation of RM10,000 for M.O Sarawak and the Sarikei Dayak Talent Association to support their activities.

The event was also attended by personalities such as Mr World Malaysia 2022 Joshua Benedict, Miss World Malaysia 2022 Wenanita Angang, and actress Sanjna Suri.

Elsewhere in Kanowit, plans are in the pipeline to build more parking spaces.

Machan assemblyman Allan Siden Gramong said that Kanowit lacked parking space.

“We have to identify suitable places for parking first. The project is, however, still in the planning stage.”

Allan was speaking to reporters after flagging off a powerboat racing event held in conjunction with Kanowit Festival.

He said the parking problem was due to the increased traffic brought on by rapid development in the district including the completion of the Sibu-Kapit road.

He also spoke on the completion of the RM5.3mil Kanowit Waterfront project which was timely for the Kanowit Festival.

“The project was initiated by Datuk Aaron Dagang (Kanowit MP) and built by the Sarawak government,” he said.
