Go digital, Fahmi tells local firms

SEREMBAN: Local companies should drive innovation and competition so that they are able to compete internationally, says Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He said on its part, in addition to supporting the development of local firms at all levels, the government is determined that Malaysia produce companies that are competitive in the international market.

“Local companies will continue to be assisted by the government through efforts to reinvigorate the capital market to drive their transformation.

“And to achieve this, the government, within the framework of this Madani Economy, intends to increase digitalisation across states, companies and communities.

“Digitisation will change the way an organisation operates,” he said when launching Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd’s “Semarak Gemilang Malaysia Madani dan Kempen OhMydin! Meriah Bersama” campaign at Mydin Mall in Seremban 2 here.

Fahmi said if an organisation makes digital technology its core, this would allow it to operate efficiently, increase production, and minimise resource wastage.

The government, he said, is also bent on expanding Internet coverage and speed throughout the nation including at Orang Asli villages to enable everyone to participate in the digital economy.

“When those living in the most remote areas including some Orang Asli villages which do not have good access to the Internet can access it through satellite, for example, they too will be able to buy products from Mydin.

“So, companies have to embrace the digital economy and I wish to commend Mydin for doing so,” he said.

In his speech earlier, Mydin managing director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin said the “Semarak Gemilang Malaysia Madani dan Kempen OhMydin! Meriah Bersama” programme was held to mark the retailer’s 66th anniversary.

He said the rapid progress in digital technology regardless of marketing, ecommerce or payment platforms, required retailers to adapt to the medium.

“So in order to meet the demands of this revolution, we’re also ensuring that Mydin steps into the era of business digitisation.

“We offer the Mydin Online service that provides convenience to the community, especially our loyal customers, to get essential items at their fingertips,” he said.

Ameer Ali said Mydin has also established cooperation with leading ecommerce partners and moved to a new and more innovative platform – TikTok Shop.

Mydin, he said, also continues to collaborate with digital payment platform partners and ewallet partners to encourage the use of digital technology when shopping.

These include collaborations with ewallet partners such as Boost, MBSB Bank E-Wallet, MCash, WavPay and Zapp.

On the “Semarak Gemilang Malaysia Madani dan Kempen OhMydin! Meriah Bersama” campaign that runs until Oct 31, Ameer Ali said it offers customers savings through merchandise discounts, cashbacks and various contest prizes involving a total cost of RM6.6mil.

This includes the “Kita Madani” sales where customers will enjoy discounts of up to 60% for household items, clothes and stationery.

Customers who register for the “Meriah” loyalty programme will be given 660 points as well as exclusive gifts while its Mydin Online customers will get a RM6 evoucher.

As for TikTok Shop on the official Mydin Malaysia’s TikTok, first-time purchasers will be entitled to claim RM15 and other special voucher codes.

In the “Belanja & Fuel Good” campaign, a collaboration with Setel, customers who spend a minimum of RM120 using the app will receive Setel vouchers worth RM6.60.

To encourage the use of digital payment modes, customers using MyDebit will have the opportunity to win Mydin vouchers worth up to RM280,000 for every purchase of RM66 and above in a single receipt.

Top shoppers using ewallet payment modes also stand a chance to win cashback and prizes worth RM366,000.

Ameer Ali said in recognition of contributions by media personnel, Mydin will soon allow those with accreditation cards issued by the Information Department to buy products from its outlets at wholesale prices.
