Groups to stage a six-day peaceful pro-Palestine rally outside US embassy

PETALING JAYA: Civil society organisations, political groups, as well as student and youth associations, are planning to gather outside the US embassy for six days starting Tuesday (Dec 26) to urge for an immediate ceasefire in Palestine.

A total of 48 groups assembled under the Palestinian Solidarity Secretariat in a statement said the peaceful gathering, or “Kepung Demi Palestin”, around the embassy in Kuala Lumpur, was to call for immediate action against the ongoing genocide happening in the Middle East.

“This six-day action is a response from Malaysians who are passionate about peace in the face of the urgent crisis demanding immediate action.

“This gathering will be conducted peacefully. We will set up tents and stay in the tents throughout the picket, in addition to organising solidarity events every night and displaying flags and symbols of the Palestinian people’s struggle.

“Therefore, we invite all Malaysians regardless of race, religion, as well as those in solidarity with the Palestinian people, driven by the spirit of humanity, to join in this action,” it said in a statement on Monday (Dec 25).

The secretariat added that a mega assembly would be held on Dec 31, which will be the main event of the peaceful protest.

In the statement, the secretariat was urging for an immediate ceasefire and arbitrary killings of the Palestinian people, including women, children, and infants.

“An immediate, permanent, and unconditional ceasefire, ending the genocide, and all parties must act in accordance with international law.

“Halting hostilities to address the immediate needs of civilians in Gaza, both for assistance and protection; and recognition of the Palestinian people’s right to a sovereign state,” it added.
