Honoured for contributions to real estate

ASAS Dunia Bhd executive chairman Datuk Seri Jerry Chan Fook Sing is humbled that the company and Penang Real Estate and Housing Developers Association (Rehda), of which he was the former chairman, were recognised by Penang government for their contributions.

He was conferred the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri (DGPN), carrying the title Datuk Seri, in conjunction with Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak’s 74th birthday celebration.

Jerry, a former student of Methodist Boys’ School, said he was thankful for the award which signified recognition of Asas Dunia as a trusted property developer and also his role in Rehda.

In his 10-year tenure as Penang Rehda chairman from 2006 to 2016, Jerry was known for his outspoken views.

He also credited his late father Tony Chan, and his brothers who helmed the company’s management, for their hard work, sacrifice and abilities which had taken the company to where it is today.

“Asas Dunia has maintained a good track record for the past 40 years and it will continue to do so for another 40 years,” said Jerry.

The developer’s earliest venture can be traced back to Taman Bukit Jambul in Bayan Lepas.

Today, the company’s projects are mostly concentrated on the mainland.

Some of Asas Dunia’s projects include Residensi Merbok in Nibong Tebal, Hijaun Hills and Hijaun Valdor in Simpang Ampat and Desa Impian in Permatang Tinggi.

Attributing the company’s success to its hands-on approach, Jerry said its good rapport with local authorities, contractors and buyers had ensured Asas Dunia was able to build and deliver quality properties that would increase in value over time.

“Be it commercial, residential or industrial, we have always delivered quality products and that is something we can be proud of.

“I always believe that every developer should only build something that he himself will want to live in,” he said.

Jerry is keen to continue contributing to Penang’s well-being and her people in whatever way he can.

“I want to use my God-given talents and capabilities to impact the community and society. It can be something as small as advising or mentoring,” he said.
