Intermediate home service set up to help recovering addicts

THE National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) and Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) have set up the first AADK Intermediate Home Service facilities on Jalan Raja Alang, Kuala Lumpur.

The first such facility in Malaysia, it represents an intensive effort to help drug addicts and recovering addicts receive appropriate treatment and rehabilitation.

The home is a new facility for those with addiction problems to obtain voluntary treatment and rehabilitation services.

The objective is to provide a facility that has a safer, cleaner and more comfortable environment.

In addition, this facility can indirectly provide a variety of activities and access to programmes that are able to improve the client’s recovery process and maintenance of recovery.

This platform is more open and community-based, especially for clients to obtain input and referrals geared towards improving their quality of life in terms of employment and living arrangements.

A total of four main services are offered through this facility: screening; client assessment and admission; referral and advocacy; and In-Community Treatment and Rehabilitation (RPDK) programmes.

It uses the AADK i-Pulih Model which covers biological, psychological, social and spiritual components and provides interest and career matching (SDS-AADK).

The procedure to access this service is through a voluntary entry method or walk-in, referral from any Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (Puspen) through the migration programme, or referral from a non-governmental organisation (NGO), as well as from smart partners and strategic partners of AADK.

AADK director-general Sutekno Ahmad Belon said the home premises owned by MAIWP allows AADK to operate the intermediate home service and Post-Continuum Care Programme (PCCP) to enable recovering addicts who still need guidance.

“The programmes and services are flexible; the clients can bring their family members during the programme and we encourage them to receive counselling too.

“This is a community-based facility in KL. We will look into expanding to other places in future,” he said at the launch in Kuala Lumpur on Monday (Feb 19).

The operating hours of this facility are 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday, for registration and client reception; referrals after office hours or public holidays must be made through the AADK Hello Hotline at 1-800-22-AADK (2235) or WhatsApp at 019-626 2233.
