Jalan Sg Long to be widened to ease congestion

A PORTION of Jalan Sungai Long near Taman Rakan in Kajang, Selangor, will be upgraded to alleviate traffic congestion.

The upgrading work involves a collaboration between Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) and the main developer with an ongoing development project there.

MPKj Engineering Department director Fadilah Razalli said the existing road from Taman Rakan to Grand Saga Expressway would be widened from a two-lane dual carriageway to a three-lane configuration.

“We have engaged with the developer and construction is expected to begin by year-end and will last six to 12 months.”

On long-term planning to ease congestion in Sungai Long, she added that MPKj had received a traffic impact assessment report from an appointed consultant.

It includes a proposal to build a ramp from Jalan Sungai Long which feeds directly into the Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway (SILK Highway).

The proposed ramp is estimated to cost RM30mil and fundraising efforts are underway.

“With the ramp, traffic from Sungai Long can disperse directly onto the highway and towards Jalan Balakong where most motorists head to,” said Fadilah.

“We have set up an infrastructure trust account for the five or six developers present in the Sungai Long area to contribute.

“We will only proceed to construct the ramp once the amount has been raised,” she said.

On a separate matter, MPKj president Nazli Md Taib said the local council was looking to set up charging stations for electric vehicles in the municipality.

“MPKj has received numerous proposals from private companies to instal charging stations,” he said after the March full board meeting yesterday.

He said the council was still exploring the idea and if accepted, implementation would take place next year.

Meanwhile, Nazli said MPKj was keen to help with rehabilitation of parts of the 2ha area at Broga Hill’s peak which had been damaged by fire earlier this month.

“MPKj is mulling the idea of replanting trees there, but will first hold discussions with the Selangor Forestry Department on various matters including identifying suitable trees.

“This will be our corporate social responsibility initiative for the community while helping to restore greenery on Broga Hill,” he said.
