THE second Kuala Lumpur Design Festival 2023 (KLDF2023) scheduled to take place from Oct 6 to 15 is set to bring together local and international players in the design industry.
They include stakeholders in the visual communication, interior design and architecture design industries, among others.
The event will be staggered to take place at iconic locations throughout the capital city such as the Kuala Lumpur Library and Telekom Museum.
Other locations include the River of Life waterfront in Masjid Jamek, Dataran Merdeka in Jalan Raja and The Godown Arts Centre in Jalan Bukit Nanas.
KLDF co-founder and director Muhammad Razif Nasruddin said the festival is aimed at improving public awareness of the importance of product designs across industries.
“Through activities such as forums and workshops, we hope to shed light on topics such as design policies and their impacts on sustainability.
“There will also be participants from other countries such as Indonesia and Japan, and hopefully Thailand too.
Muhammad Razif (left) and Shafiqe hope the festival will encourage a healthy mix of local and international players in the design industry.
“Their participation is hoped to encourage the exchange of ideas among local and international players,” he said.
Co-founder and executive director Shafiqe Badril said KLDF2023 was a platform for local designers to showcase their talent for a wider audience.
“Through exposure via this event, we also hope to help start-up design firms gain a footing in their respective industries,” he added.
Themed ‘Sustainable Intelligence’, the event would comprise various activities such as conferences, trade fairs and exhibitions, among others.
As part of the festival, there would also be performances and films about designs, which participants must register for online.
Art installations would also be placed at certain public transportation stations to help promote the KLDF2023 event.
Unlike in 2022 when it was held in December, this year’s KLDF2023 was brought forward by two months to avoid the year end monsoon season.
It is currently calling for architects, academicians, artists, graphic and industrial designers, animators, data visualizers and filmmakers to participate.
