Laundry business busted by ministry for using LPG without permit in Johor

JOHOR BARU: A laundry business has been busted by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry for using liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) without a permit for its operations.

The ministry’s Johor director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said a raid was conducted at around 12pm Wednesday (June 19) based on a public complaint against the business premises located in Taman Ekoperniagaan here.

“The raid led to the seizure of 28 LPG tanks found at the premises.

“The laundry services company has been storing and utilising LPG to run its operations without a permit to do so,” she said in a statement on Thursday (June 20).

Lilis Saslinda said the ministry had recorded the statement of the laundry company’s owner, in his 50s, to aid in the investigation.

She added that the company that supplied the gas tanks to the laundry service provider would also be investigated for selling the controlled goods to someone who does not possess the necessary permits.

The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, which upon conviction is punishable with a maximum fine of RM1mil or three-year imprisonment, or both for the first offence.

For the second offence, the fine could go up to RM3mil or a jail term of up to five years, or both.

Companies or organisations that were deemed guilty of the offence could face a fine of up to RM2mil for the first office and up to RM5mil for the following offences.

Lilis Saslinda reminded the people not to go against the law as the ministry would not hesitate to take action against them to safeguard the people’s interests.
