Low-cost flights from Singapore to three Sarawak cities boost connectivity

SINGAPOREANS can visit more places in Sarawak as Scoot is now flying to Kuching, Sibu and Miri.

The low-cost carrier of Singapore Airlines has begun daily flights from Singapore to Kuching plus four flights a week to Miri and thrice weekly to Sibu.

“Now Singaporeans have more travel choices when they come to Sarawak,” said state Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin at an event welcoming the first Scoot Singapore-Sibu flight.

Lee also highlighted places of interest and foods that Singaporeans could enjoy.

“In Kuching, you can see all the historical buildings.

“In Miri, which is a resort city, you can enjoy the beach, seafood and visit national parks which include Mulu and Niah.

“We have urban natural areas in Miri where you can watch hornbills. Also, you can go to the Bario highlands.

“In Sibu, Singaporeans can also enjoy nature, visit longhouses and sample local foods such as “kompia” buns, mee sua (long life noodles) and kampua mee (Foochow dry noodles),” he enthused.

Lee pointed out that the new Singapore-Sibu sector opened up myriad opportunities for Sarawak folk and Singaporeans alike.

“For local businesses, it provides a gateway to expand and explore new markets.

“For tourists, it offers a direct path to discover the rich cultural heritage and breathtaking natural beauty of Sarawak.”

The partnership with Scoot, he said, was set to drive exponential growth of tourism, among visitors wanting to experience Sarawak’s best offerings.

The Singapore sector, said Lee, was important as the republic served as a hub connecting Sarawak to the world because of its strategic location, advanced infrastructure and well established air routes linking major global markets.

“We hope that with this new route, many more Singaporeans and people from around the globe will embark on a journey of discovery here in Sarawak.”
