LRT collision: Prasarana committed to fair resolution for passengers involved

PETALING JAYA: A total of 90 passengers involved in the Kelana Jaya LRT line collision in 2021 have received financial assistance and several claims have been resolved, says Prasarana Malaysia Bhd(Prasarana).

“Soon after the incident, Prasarana had reached out to all the passengers involved offering special financial assistance and counselling,” the company said in a statement on Wednesday (May 15).

The financial assistance extended included, among others, medical expenses and follow-up treatment for all passengers involved.

“Of the passengers affected, 90 individuals received financial assistance and several claims have since been amicably resolved,” it added.

It was responding to media reports on a lawsuit filed against Prasarana in relation to the May 24, 2021 incident.

“Prasarana remains steadfast in offering support to those involved in the incident and has been actively exploring a fair resolution with those involved through its insurer, Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Bhd,” it said.

“Prasarana wishes to reiterate its continued readiness to explore a fair resolution of matters and is taking steps to engage in discussions with those involved,” it added.

Prasarana said as a transit operator,it remains committed towards resolving the matter and will continue to be open to proposals for resolution which are on reasonable terms.

Florence Lee, filed a suit in December last year, against Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and rail operator Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, for failing to ensure her safety, security and well-being when using the LRT.Kuala Lumpur High Court justice Shahrir Salleh fixed Jan 10 to 13, 2028, for commencement of trial.

The Kelana Jaya LRT collision occurred at about 8.45pm in a tunnel between the KLCC LRT station and Kampung Baru LRT station. It resulted in 260 people injured, including 47 with serious injuries.
