KUALA LUMPUR: Malakoff Corporation Bhd (Malakoff) through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Malakoff Radiance Sdn Bhd, has signed a solar power purchase agreement (SPPA) with Gas Malaysia Bhd for the development, operation and maintenance of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at three Gas Malaysia sites.
The sites are Gas Malaysia headquarters (HQ) in Shah Alam, Southern Regional Office in Pasir Gudang, Johor and Eastern Regional Office in Gebeng, Kuantan.
“Additionally, Malakoff will also be installing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at Gas Malaysia HQ and Gas Malaysia at Jalan Gurney in Kuala Lumpur,” Malakoff said in a statement today.
It said the implementation of solar energy solutions and installation of carbon-free mobility infrastructure through this collaboration is a step towards realising its commitment to achieve 500 megawatts (MW) of solar projects within the Albukhary Group of Companies, simultaneously supporting Gas Malaysia’s aspiration in advancing environmental sustainability.
“We believe that incorporating EV charging solutions into a corporate infrastructure serves as a tangible embodiment of that organisation’s core values and unwavering commitment to sustainability.
“This initiative truly demonstrates both Malakoff and Gas Malaysia’s dedication to align our actions with our words regarding the adoption of green energy, setting a noteworthy example for the industry,” Malakoff’s managing director/chief executive officer Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib said.
To date, Malakoff holds a total of 151 MW of renewable energy generating capacity under its portfolio, consisting of projects acquired for large-scale solar (LSS), rooftop solar (RTS) and small hydropower generation.
In its pursuit of a cleaner and greener world, this SPPA is part of Malakoff’s commitment towards United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal No 7 — affordable and clean energy which focuses on ensuring access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for all. – BK
