HULU SELANGOR: Malay voters are showing increased confidence in the unity government, says Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (pic).

“This is a sign that as Malaysians, we accept that we need each other, and the unity team is the right coalition to develop the country and take care of the people,” the Selangor Mentri Besar said.

Speaking at a press conference at the Pakatan Harapan operations centre on Saturday (May 11), he said that for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election, the unity government showed gains in both early voting and postal voting.

Amirudin also said the vote share for the unity government showed an increase of three percentage points compared to the previous state election.

“In the last state election, we secured around 54% of the votes and Pakatan Harapan’s Pang Sock Tao managed to garner 57%,” said Amirudin.

He also said support for the unity government, particularly among the Indian, Chinese and Orang Asli communities, were intact.

“This shows that we as Malaysians accept that we need each other and the unity government coalition is right for national development and justice,” said Amirudin.

Amirudin also said the outcome of the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election showed that locals here do not want “divisive agents” to represent them.

“Instead, the people want unity and togetherness as a foundation to bring about state and national economic development that can improve the quality of their lives,” said Amirudin.

Amiruddin also expressed gratitude to all parties involved – including those from Barisan Nasional, Umno and non-governmental organisations – for their efforts to ensure Pang’s victory.

At the vote-counting centre here, Pang said she would strive to focus on resolving local issues such as street lights, clogged drains and even Internet connectivity.

“From each issue, varying time frames are needed to resolve them. I will find solutions with my team, local council and state government,” she said.
