MCA calls for MACC Probe on Selangor Mobility Initiative

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should investigate the awarding of the demand responsive transit (DRT) Selangor Mobility Initiative pilot project to a company co-founded by the husband of Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, says MCA.

Its Youth secretary-general Saw Yee Fung (pic) called on the Selangor government and DAP to make public how Asia Mobility Technologies Sdn Bhd was selected for the project.

She questioned the explanation by Selangor investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han over how the project was awarded.

Ng had explained that Asia Mobility was appointed in October last year to provide DRT services because it had the necessary credentials.

He said in a statement on Friday (May 24) that two companies, Asia Mobility and Badan Bas Coach Sdn Bhd (Badan Bas), were given the nod by the Land Public Transport Agency to run the services when the state initiated the DRT pilot project.

“A letter of intent was given to the service operators on June 15, 2023, and the appointment letters were issued on September 20, 2023,” said Ng.

The company was founded in 2018 by Yeoh’s husband Ramachandran Muniandy, who is its chief executive officer, and another partner.

Referring to Ng’s statement, Saw questioned the speed of the process, as the appointment letter was issued three months later.

“Such efficiency is rarely seen,” said Saw in a statement on Sunday (May 26).

“This incident has called into question the competency, accountability and transparency of Putrajaya and SelCAT proudly bandied by the Selangor state government.

“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has repeatedly emphasised the government’s determination to combat corruption. However, the occurrence of such opaque operations severely undermines the Prime Minister’s slogan of Malaysia Madani,” she added.

Saw said that the MACC should intervene and thoroughly investigate the matter to ensure that the project award was not due to any nepotism or preferential treatment.
