PETRONAS unveils Kaamatan film | The Star

KOTA KINABALU: Inspired by the spirit of Kaamatan and picturesque Kampung Kiau, nestled in the valleys of Mount Kinabalu, a PETRONAS short film highlights the role of unity and tradition in fostering community harmony.

Titled “Linundus Do Koubasanan”, which translates from the Dusun dialect to “the beauty of tradition”, the film narrates the story of Fridden, a young boy tasked by his father to help with preparations for the Kaamatan festival.

Viewers are introduced to the various aspects of the community’s way of life, from intricate customs to their everyday challenges and triumphs.

The narrative explores themes of cultural heritage, unity and the timeless values of sacrifice and hard work, featuring the local Dusun dialect, practices and traditions, as well as sharing the joy of celebrating Kaamatan.

Co- directors Bebbra Mailin and Rewan Ishak also captured Kampung Kiau’s unique landscape, bringing their signature touch to the depiction of the local culture in celebrating Kaamatan.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan (fourth right) and senior general manager of strategic communications, PETRONAS group strategic relations and communications Siti Azlina Abdul Latif (third right) posed for the camera with others at PETRONAS’ “Linundus Do Koubasanan” official preview in Kota Kinabalu on Monday (May 20).

Sabah Deputy Chief Minister and state Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, who attended the film’s preview here on Monday (May 20), described it as touching.

“I’m impressed – the Kaamatan message was clear, the actors looked professional and you could feel the vibrant culture. It sends a message about the importance of preserving our tradition and culture,” said the Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) deputy president.

Meanwhile, PETRONAS group strategic relations and communications senior general manager Siti Azlina Abdul Latif hoped the film would highlight the crucial role of unity and tradition in maintaining harmony within a community.
