Police report filed against Ngeh alleging PN arson

KAJANG: A police report has been lodged against Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham for alleging the arson attack at his home was instigated by Perikatan Nasional.

Perikatan Nasional Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the report was lodged because Ngeh’s statements immediately after the attack pre-empted police investigations.

“We do not agree with his statements that the culprits were motivated (by) the statements of Perikatan Nasional and PAS, who did not agree with his suggestion to place a non-Muslim in the special committee formed by the Federal Government to study Syariah law. This is yet another disrespectful statement from him to (pre-empt) police investigations,” he said when met outside Kajang police headquarters yesterday.

However, he added that they sympathised with Ngeh over the incident.

“Such acts cannot be accepted in our country and no one should ever resort to destroying the property of others. We hope that he finds justice in this matter. We just want him to stop making any statements before the police finish their investigations,” he said.

Logically speaking, he added, setting fire to anything or attempting to harm someone was not Perikatan’s way.

“We hope the police conduct a swift investigation and bring the culprit to justice. It does not matter if Ngeh forgives them. Action must be taken against those responsible,” he said.

Ahmad Fadhli also said he was confident that the matter was not related to Perikatan.

“It is entirely possible that he has other enemies not related to politics,” he said.

The fire that damaged three cars at Ngeh’s house in the early hours of Wednesday morning was believed to have been caused by a Molotov cocktail.

The Perak Fire and Rescue Department said three cars parked at the lawmaker’s house were damaged.

No one was injured in the incident that occurred at about 3am at his house in Taman Semarak Jaya, Ayer Tawar.
