Probe on Tony Pua to be wrapped up soon, says IGP

PETALING JAYA: Bukit Aman will soon complete its investigation involving DAP’s Tony Pua in connection with his comments on the sentence reduction given to Datuk Seri Najib Razak, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The Inspector-General of Police said the CID’s Special Investigation Unit had already recorded Pua’s statement on Monday (Feb 5).

“As with such cases, we will have about seven days to complete the investigation.

“We will complete it and forward the investigation paper to the Attorney General’s Chambers,” he told reporters after launching Ops Selamat in conjunction with Chinese New Year at Persada PLUS on Wednesday (Feb 7).

It was reported that Pua was questioned by investigators for slightly more than an hour earlier this week.

Pua, who was accompanied by lawyer Haijan Omar, arrived at Bukit Aman at 1.13pm and left at about 2.30pm on Monday (Feb 5).

“I was asked to give a statement pertaining to a sedition Investigation in connection with five Facebook posts I made.

“I gave my full cooperation to the police,” he had said.

Pua said he could not think of any seditious elements in his Facebook posts.

“We hope the police will conduct a thorough and prompt investigation.

“I will hand over my laptop to the police later as I used it to upload the posts and I will also hand over access to my Facebook account,” he said.

Previously, the IGP had said an investigation was launched after it was alleged that the former Damansara MP’s comments uploaded on his Facebook page insulted the royal institution.

On Friday (Feb 2), the Pardons Board reduced former prime minister Najib’s jail sentence in the SRC International case to six years from 12, and his fine to RM50mil from RM210mil.
