Puchong landslide victims want clearer timeline from MBSJ

Taman Wawasan Puchong residents are still in the dark about the progress of repair works on their homes and neighbourhood roads after a landslide in the area.

A resident, known only as Yap, said Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) informed them that Phase 1 of repairs to stabilise the landslide site was completed end of February.

“We were not given updates on the second phase of repairs.

“Contractors told us the estimated date of completion is Oct 24.

“All of us are currently staying with relatives and it is inconvenient,” added Yap.

On Dec 16, 2023, a landslide on Jalan Wawasan 3/9 in Pusat Bandar Puchong, Selangor, damaged four cars and led to the evacuation of 29 residents from nine houses.

Khoo, another resident, said some victims who visited the site suspected there was still soil movement in front of several houses, partly due to heavy rain.

She is currently renting a condominium unit.

“We need to know the timeline as we have to renew our tenancy,” she said.

Khoo said a neighbour had also requested MBSJ’s help to remove her refrigerator from the site.

“Previously my children would walk to their tuition teacher’s house, but since the landslide, classes are conducted online.

“At least keep us updated, so those affected can plan ahead.”

Another victim, Low, who used to sell rojak near the site, said he could not carry on with his business and had no income.

He added that he was temporarily residing with his aunt.

Qistina Suffian, 27, said she saw signs of fresh soil movement at the front porch of her home.

“MBSJ promised to update us on the progress, but they last briefed the residents on Jan 8.”

Wai Choon, another resident, claimed that the contractors had stopped work at the site since Chinese New Year.

When contacted, MBSJ Engineering Department deputy director Mohd Ariffuddin Kamari said the contractor had been approached about Phase 2 of the repairs and that a report would be prepared later.
