KUALA LUMPUR: Runners in the Rawang area have been cautioned to look out for nails lined along the road after a fitness enthusiast was injured while on their morning run.
Sharing their ordeal, the anonymous runner said that he had just embarked on his morning 10km run when he stepped on a nail on Saturday (April 27).
“I stepped on a nail and fell down because of someone’s ill intentions.
“I am sad not because I was injured but because I could not finish my run.
“Someone planted a row of nails on the side of the road. I wonder what was in their mind and heart when they put these nails on the road,” the man said in a post that was shared on the Malaysia Runners Facebook group that has since gone viral.
The man shared photos of his bloodied heel and palm while showing a photo of the row of nails planted with the sharp edge positioned upwards.
While the man’s name has been blurred out, a copy of the police report he lodged at the Rawang police station was provided.
The police report stated that the incident happened at around 7am on Saturday when the man, a contractor, was out on his morning jog along Persiaran Anggun in Rawang.
In the report, he claimed to have stepped on a nail which resulted in a fall, injuring his heel and palm.
“I suspect the person who planted the nails had ill intentions.
“The nails were planted on both sides of the road.
“I am lodging this report for action and reference purposes,” he said.
The post has since gone viral with many commenting that they hoped the perpetrator would be caught and punished.
One user, who goes by the handle Felicia Ramzi, said it was dangerous and hoped there would be swift action.
“What if there are small children, or people riding motorbikes there,” she said with concern.
User Afif Shah Abdullah said he hoped there was CCTV footage that could help catch those involved.
User Chee Guan Low said one has to be careful as he has often experienced a punctured tyre.
User Ng SE also said it could cause grave injury if someone fell and hurt their eyes.
