RM7.6mil drugs seized from condos

KUALA LUMPUR: A drug syndicate, which supplied pushers in the Klang Valley as well as in Sabah and Sarawak, was busted with the arrest of two men.Police seized illicit drugs worth RM7.6mil in the operation.

The suspects, including the 41-year-old mastermind, were nabbed while packaging the drugs for distribution.

It is learnt the drugs were smuggled from Myanmar and then distributed by pushers at night clubs in the Klang Valley.

The syndicate also shipped drugs in tea packets to Sabah and Sarawak via courier companies.Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Kamarudin Md Din said police conducted raids on three luxury condominiums units in Cheras on Feb 14.

“We seized 134.87kg of syabu, 8.25kg of Erimin 5, 25.54kg of ecstasy, 8.6kg of ketamine and 6.05kg of MDMA powder worth a total of RM7.6mil.

“The drugs seized could have been supplied to 850,000 addicts.

“We also detained two men – the mastermind and the runner, who is also the store keeper,” he told a press conference at the Cheras police headquarters yesterday.

An Airsoft pistol with two magazines were also seized in the raid, he said.

“We believe the syndicate used the condominium units as storage for the drugs before distribution to pushers in Klang Valley as well as Sabah and Sarawak.

“Police investigations revealed that the drugs were smuggled from Myanmar through Thailand before ending up in Malaysia,” he said.

The syndicate has been active since the middle of last year, Comm Mohd Kamarudin said.“One of the suspects detained has a record with 22 prior criminal offences.“Both suspects tested negative for drugs and have been remanded for further investigation,” he said.Comm Mohd Kamarudin said police also seized two vehicles and a wristwatch belonging to the syndicate worth RM163,000.

“The mastermind would receive orders from local pushers before instructing his runner and store keeper to pack the drugs to be distributed.

“They would drive the drugs to pushers in the Klang Valley and also have them shipped by courier to Sabah and Sarawak.

“The drugs are packed into tea packets in an attempt to evade detection.

“We are further investigating what courier service was used by the syndicate to ship the drugs to Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.
