Johor government pledges to repair, maintain PPRs, govt rentals and public flats
Johor government has allocated RM76mil for repair works at People’s Housing Projects (PPR), Government Rental Houses (RSK) and public flats.
Johor housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said out of this amount, RM36mil was allocated for the repair and maintenance of 13 PPRs.
“For PPR Kempas Permai alone, the state government has allocated RM6.8mil for upgrading the drainage system, repair and maintenance of water pumps at pump houses and replacement of corridor and public area lights,” he said.
“Also included are upgrades to parking facilities and construction of covered pedestrian walkways, construction of open public halls, upgrades to surau, and repair of floors and damp-proof layers of PPR Kempas Permai.”
He said this while answering questions from Datuk Ramlee Bohani (BN-Kempas), who asked about action taken by Johor Housing Development Corporation (PKPJ) in handling the problem of overcrowding and old vehicles in PPR Permai Kempas, which resulted in limited parking spaces and traffic congestion.
The allocation, added Mohd Jafni, would also improve market stalls, fencing, piping systems, retaining walls and other facilities.
He further said that the state government had allocated RM19mil to repair RSK and government apartments.
For repairs to public flats, RM14.1mil will be used to improve Flat Taman Impian Emas (RM1.6mil), Rumah Pangsa Tangkak (RM2mil), Flat Haji Manan and Flat Taman Bersatu Kluang (RM8.5mil) and Pangsapuri EDL (RM2mil).
On the shortage of parking space at PPR Kempas Permai, Mohd Jafni shared that PKPJ had received proposals for additional bays and road repavement works in the PPR area.
“The implementation of infrastructure and facility improvements will also take into account the need to demolish and clear all illegal structures on PPR Kempas land,” he said.
“PKPJ will also extend the implementation of its new policy of ‘One House, One Car’ in old PPRs, as we have done in several new PPRs, such as PPR Melana Indah, PPR Uda Utama, PPR Perling, PPR Pelangi Indah, PPR Cahaya Senibong and PPR Tiram.
“A barrier gate system with security control will be installed and residents will receive vehicle stickers for registered vehicles which will be allowed to enter and park in the PPR area.”
Mohd Jafni added that visitors must report to the security post and get a visitor pass.
Unregistered or unauthorised vehicles will be clamped if they do not follow the rules.
“This initiative will start in mid-2024 and be fully implemented by the end of 2024.
“Additional cost is required for barriers, stickers and security.”
