Rubik’s fans rejoice: Malaysia Cube Championship returns to Shah Alam

THE return of the Malaysia Cube Championship 2023 – the region’s largest premier speed cubing tournament – will thrill speed cubing enthusiasts as they vie for the championship trophy.

Following a spectacular tournament last year, the championship sanctioned by the World Cube Association will be held from Dec 1 to 3 in Shah Alam.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said in a statement that she is thrilled that more than 200 speed cubers from 14 countries such as Canada, China, the United Kingdom, Australia and Japan will be coming here for the Malaysia Cube Championship.

“Kudos to the Malaysia Cube Association for organising this and I wish all the participants the best and an enjoyable time here with our unique Malaysian hospitality,” she said.

The championship is a Speedcubing competition where participants solve a Rubik’s Cube or related puzzle as quickly as possible.

Malaysia Cube Championship co-organiser Matthew Tang said the world’s top speedcubers, such as Yiheng Wang from China, Seung Hyuk Nahm of Korea and Wong Chong Wen and Tristan Chua from Singapore are set to grace our shores.

“They will compete alongside our homegrown talents such as Hill Pong, Lim Hung, Tee Kai Yang, Ephraim Lim and Ivan Liew, with the aim of smashing existing world records and improving their personal best times.

“The championship will be very entertaining for enthusiasts and the general public alike.

“We encourage and welcome everyone young and old to attend. In light of our desire to promote cubing as a competitive sport and healthy activity, no entry fee will be imposed to attend the event,” he said.

Fellow co-organiser.Joyce Peh thanked the sponsors namely Hibiscus Petroleum, GanCube, JPearly, Dwi Emas International School and Vida Malaysia for their support of the championship.

“Without these sponsors, the Championship would not be a reality,” she said.

The tournament will be held at Dwi Emas International School, Shah Alam, Selangor.
