PORT KLANG: A man armed with a gun escaped on a motorcycle after robbing a jewellery outlet here.
According to a media statement issued by South Klang district police chief ACP Cha Hoong Fong, the incident happened at 4.15 pm on June 13.
ACP Cha added that police received a call about the incident from a member of the public at 4.25pm.
He said the suspect had grabbed a security guard stationed at the Persiaran Raja Muda Musa premise and brought him inside the outlet.
“The suspect grabbed the guard, brought him into the outlet and shot the ground twice.
“At the same time, several members of the public who were in the premises succeeded in running away after realising the suspect’s presence there,’’ said ACP Cha.
“The suspect then ordered the people manning the outlet to bring out all the jewellery, but the person in charge refused to follow his orders.”
“The suspect then grabbed a few bangles and chains on the counter table as well as two handbags belonging to customers who were still there and escaped on a blue motorbike,” said ACP Cha.
“The suspect is believed to be a stocky adult male and was wearing a red long-sleeved shirt, dark long pants and white gloves as well as a white helmet with a black visor,’’ added SCP Cha.
He said the premise owner and the customers were unscathed, and the estimated loss had yet to be determined.
The Selangor police headquarters forensic unit had also rushed to the crime scene and managed to retrieve several pieces of evidence, including a bullet casing.
ACP Cha said the South Klang police had opened an investigation paper under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for robbery by discharging a firearm.
“The police are identifying the suspect and will be making an arrest soon.
“Members of the public who have any information related to the incident are urged to go to the nearest police station or contact South Klang police headquarters at 03-33762222 to help with the investigations,’’ said Cha.
